The highlight is the start of the 1st XI League campaign in Cabra at 1 p.m. At home the 3rd XI host CYM in the Middle Cup. On Sunday the 2nd XI host YMCA and the 4th XI travel to the Sunny South East. Best of luck to one and all.
The match report for the First XI's Twenty20 match against North County and the Senior League match against Old Belvedere are here . Friday June 19th 2009 Congratulations to the 1st XI who hade a glorious victory over North County in the Alan Murray Twenty Over Competition last night. Batting first we made 202 in our 20 overs, both Andrew Downton and DLS made rapid half centuries. In truth it was always too much for North County and they fell about 50 runs short in the end. Reports on all the First XI's matches for the season are available here . Pictures of various club matches can be seen here . Fixtures for the weekend are as follows:
Best of luck to them and all teams. Monday June 1st 2009 The Bank Holiday weekend saw the 1st XI in action twice. On Friday they hosted CSNI in a Bob Kerr Irish Senior Cup match. In glorious weather, and in front of a good crowd the home team set an imposing total of 293, featuring a fine century from Andrew Downton. CSNI were never in the chase and a spread of wickets saw the home team into the next round by c100 runs. The next round takes place on June 13th in either CIYMS or Eglinton. On Saturday the 1st XI travelled to Clontarf in the newly christened LHW Senior Cup. Details are not to hand at this stage, but luck was not on our side, and Clontarf won the day. On Sunday the 2nd XI lost narrowly to Old Belvedere in the Senior 2 Cup. On Monday the 4th XI lost to Leinster, despite some good performances by young and old. You can see some pictures here . Tuesday May 5th 2009 A good bank holiday weekend for the club saw victories for the 1st XI and 3rd XI on Saturday, 4th XI on Sunday and 3rd XI on Monday. On Saturday the 1st XI had a good start to their season, dismissing Old Belvedere for 110 and chasing the score easily. DLS and Conor Kelly took the wickets and Graham Flanagan and Andrew Downton scored the runs. On Sunday the 4th XI started off their League campaign with a victory at home to Clontarf. Winning the toss and batting Phoenix got to 55-1 before collapsing to 84 all out. Mike Bailey (good to see him back in Phoenix colours) top scored with 30 and Thomas Anders batted nicely at number 6 for 15. However good bowling and fielding resulted in Clontarf being all out for 36. Thomas Anders got 2 early wickets and Tony Carey was top wicket taker with 4. Also it was nice to see Suvraj (one of 4 youth players selected) get his first wicket in adult cricket. All-in-all a good performance though the batting will need to improve. On Monday the 1st XI travelled to North County and were narrowly defeated in a close contest. At home the 3rd XI dismissed The Hills for 32 and chased the score for the loss of only one wicket.
